Global GPRS Roaming (GRX)

By using their mobile phones, they can access the internet, email, MMS and other data services through 3G or GPRS technology. Mobile operators need to extend this facility to their end users even when they are roaming. To provide this, the operator needs access to a secure IP network to handle the mobile data traffic. A GPRS roaming service offers mobile operators a cost efficient IP connection to any mobile operator through a sophisticated One-to-Any architecture. GPRS Roaming is facilitated through a GPRS Roaming Exchange (GRX) which is a hub for GPRS connections between mobile roaming partners. Based on the operators roaming agreements the set up of the GRX gives immediate IP access to all roaming partners.

The GRX and the IPX network
By using a fully compliant and dedicated IP network for GRX services, Telenor Global Services have been providing all essential mobile data services for the proactive operators since September
2000. The GRX network is often seen as the predecessor of IPX (IP Exchange) and it offers a good starting point for the development of IPX. The evolution towards Next Generation Networks (NGN) or IP-based fixed and mobile networks has the potential for exciting and innovative opportunities for end users. This also enhances the Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities to improve the user experience.
